General Rules

In order to provide you with a safe and happy LAN experience, we have implemented a few simple rules:

Please read this carefully. Remember we’re at the LAN to have fun, and following these simple guidelines will help ensure this happens.

* The number one rule of etiquette is Respect. Respect others, respect the staff, and you will be respected in return.

* The number two rule of etiquette is Honour. Play, win and lose with honour.

The Rest of the Rules:

* Please clean up after yourself. Do not leave garbage and empty containers laying around your chair and table. Deposit trash and recyclables in the appropriate places. You don’t want your area looking like a dump when cameras and journalists roll through, do you? What would your mother say?

* Staff always have the final word, but will work with you to resolve any problems.

* If you have not pre-purchased your ticket, you do not have a reserved seat.

* It is your responsibility to scan your computer for any virus, trojan or worm infection and update or patch any software prior to attending the LAN. We will be conducting random scans, so it will be in your best interest to ensure your computer is infection free. If you knowingly infect any other computers or our servers at the LAN, you may face charges; at the very least you will be removed from the LAN without a refund.

* You must be 13 years of age and older in order to attend Digital Storm LAN.

* If you are aged 13 - 16 and do not have a signed and verifiable Parental Consent Waiver, you will not be allowed into the LAN. We have to follow the ESRB Rating System, and as many of the LAN games are rated M, parental consent is required.

* Absolutely no cheats or hacks! Players found to be cheating will be removed from the LAN (you won’t get a refund) and you’ll be forever labelled as “that cheater” in local gaming circles.

* If you have a serious problem with another attendee, please tell a member of staff.

* Do not change your assigned seat at the party without staff permission. If we need to find you for any reason, we need to know where you’re supposed to be sitting; it makes our life just that little bit easier.

* Do not attempt to hack into the LAN servers or to anyone else’s computers. Attempts to do so may result in a call to the authorities and your expulsion from the LAN without a refund.

* Please ensure you are using legally purchased games. Absolutely no warez - this could put the whole LAN event at risk and could land you in jail.

* Do not touch other people’s stuff. It’s their stuff, not yours. Touch your own stuff.

* Keep your food and drink away from other people’s stuff. You should probably keep it away from your stuff too, if your stuff involves a PC and keyboard.

* Absolutely NO alcohol or drugs. We can’t stress this enough. Not only will you get in trouble, we could get in trouble too, and we prefer a trouble-free LAN.

* Walk, don’t run. It might take you a little longer to get where you’re going, but it’s safer that way.

* Please don’t launch any projectiles not on a computer screen. You could injure someone or their equipment. If you feel the need to throw things, throw some grenades at a wall, just make sure your game character isn’t standing too close to said wall.

* No leeching during gaming hours (that means no huge amounts of file transferring). Everything you need (patches / mods etc) should be available to download from the Intranet - so there’s no excuse. The network and each port on the switches are monitored for leeching. If your port is using too much bandwidth - it’ll be capped. If you don’t want people checking out the files on your computer, turn off File Share options in your PC, and remember piracy is illegal in Canada.

* Don’t be taking stuff that isn’t yours. If you are caught stealing, the RCMP will be called, you will be removed from the LAN and no you won’t get a refund. You will probably also earn yourself the reputation of “that thief” which is more than a few steps down the ladder from “that cheater” and you don’t want that, do you?

* No Porn. Period.

* Banter is good, flaming is not. Enjoying yourself is good, ego-trips and poor sportsmanship is not. Please keep all banter and taunts within the bounds of putting up a challenge, but don’t start spewing hurtful insults. They are not fun.

* Please try to keep the vocalization of your gaming enthusiasm to a dull roar. Also, please try to keep your language reasonably clean. Remember there will be media and sponsors present, and how you behave will reflect on gamers everywhere.

* Do not misplace your gamer pass. If you leave the building, you won’t be able to get back inside without it.

* The Croatian Cultural Centre is a smoke-free zone. If you smoke, you will need to go outside. Please use the containers provided, don’t leave your cigarette butts all over the parking lot and sidewalk.

* No fridges.  If you wish to bring your own refreshments to the LAN and want a way to keep them cold, you may bring a soft-sided cooler (not steel box, not plastic, and PLEASE not styrofoam) and sealed ice packs.  We do not advise using gel-paks, as these are prone to puncture and leaking.  Note that a concession will be running at the event during “regular hours”, so you will have a chance to purchase cold drinks from them.  Size limits on the cooler is: 14″ Tall by 7″ Wide by 21″ Long.  This cooler must also be able to fix under your chair, so remember that by bringing it, you may have to sacrifice leaving something else at home.

* No cancellations after July 15, 2008. Any cancellations made after this date will not be refunded. Cancellations prior to July 15, 2008 will be subject to a $5.00 cancellation fee.
